Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah dropped in on a part of the “Enabling Communities through Enterprise Development” course at the Institute for Sustainable Development Practice (ISDP) at Columbia University Middle East Research Center (CUMERC) in Amman today. The course is attended by 36 practitioners in the field of development.

(Office of Her Majesty, Press Department- Amman) – Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah paid a visit to the Family Care Society in Jabal Al Hussein in Amman today. The visit included a tour of the society’s facilities and a brief about the services provided to its beneficiaries.
Her Majesty commended the society’s work and dedication to their beneficiaries and stressed the need for such cooperatives to help develop their local communities.

(Office of Her Majesty, Press Department- Amman) - Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah and the wife of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, Mrs. Ban Soon-taek, paid a visit to the Queen Rania Family and Child Center in Amman today. Part of Her Majesty’s Jordan River Foundation (JRF), the center offers a pioneering and innovative approach to the traditional Arab model of a community center, as well as providing integrated services and support to children and families.

(Office of Her Majesty – Press Department- Amman) – Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah made a visit to Mabarrat Um Al Hussein orphanage today in Amman, where she met with groups of orphans, caregivers and Al Aman Fund beneficiaries and applicants. Chaired by HRH Princess Basma Bint Talal, Mabarrat Um Al Hussein was founded in 1958, by Her late Majesty Queen Zain Al Sharaf.

(Office of Her Majesty, Press Department - Amman) The Jordan River Foundation (JRF), on Sunday, presented Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah with a five-year strategic plan for its activities related to child safety and prevention of abuse.
Over the past few years, Queen Rania spearheaded efforts to raise awareness on the issue of child safety, bringing it to the forefront of national policy agendas in an effort to promote a culture of prevention that addresses the Jordanian community at large.

(Jordan Times - Amman) Her Majesty Queen Rania on Sunday took part in the 9th meeting of the Arab Open University (AOU) board of trustees, where participants discussed several issues including the 2008-2012 AOU strategy and its scientific research plans.
They also discussed establishing a centre in Lebanon to ensure the quality of education, AOU employees’ salary scale and cooperation prospects with Harvard University, in addition to reviewing a follow-up performance report.

The center offers specialized training targeted at blind women and girls, to empower them with the skills necessary to hold jobs, become productive members of society and role models for others.

(Office of Her Majesty, Press Department - Amman) Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah commended the success of the cultural activities organized last year as part of Amman the Arab Cultural Capital for the year 2002.
In a meeting with members of the Higher National Committee of the Declaration of Amman the Arab Cultural Capital 2002, Queen Rania said the cultural activities organized throughout the past year represent a crucial step towards enhancing the role of culture at both local and regional levels.

(Office of Her Majesty, Press Department - Amman) The Royal Hashemite Court announced that Her Majesty Queen Rania gave birth on Sunday evening to a baby boy, HRH Prince Hashem.
The King and Queen, who have three other children, Their Royal Highnesses Prince Hussein, 10, Princess Iman, 8, and Princess Salma, 4, called on citizens to donate to the “Al Aman” Campaign for the Future of Orphans, which was launched by Queen Rania in Ramadan 2003, instead of posting congratulatory ads in newspapers or sending flowers.
