Well I do feel that last year I think people were really in crisis mode, the financial crisis was still very new in peoples minds and people I think felt a little defeated, this year I felt people having reflected over the crisis are thinking more how can we fix things how can we move forward, how can we reset and redesign things so were talking more about a global redesign atmosphere.

Thank you, Derrick.
I once read that to achieve great things, two things are needed: a plan…and not quite enough time!
After two days of discussions and renewed commitments, I’m pleased that we now have a plan to achieve the MDGs. With only five years to go until our deadline, we certainly don’t have “quite enough time.”

Thank you, Mike, and everyone at the Tech Museum, Applied Materials, and the University of Santa Clara for this award; I’m truly honoured. For me, the Tech Awards are a perfect combination of ingenuity and compassion. Not only do they recognise invaluable innovations in technology, they celebrate treasured contributions to humanity, too. For that, we are all thankful.
Someone once said the Stone Age didn’t end because they ran out of stones. It was much easier than that. It was because someone, somewhere, had an idea.
