Queen Rania Attends Part of Takaful Conference and Drops In on QRTA Training Session

(Office of Her Majesty, Press Department- Amman) – Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah attended today part of TAKAFUL conference’s second day sessions. Takaful is the First Annual Conference on Philanthropy and Civic Engagement, which is jointly organized by the Columbia University Middle East Research Center (CUMERC) and the Gerhart Center for Philanthropy and Civic Engagement at the American University of Cairo (Gerhart Center, AUC).

The conference, which took place at CUMERC headquarters in Amman, began its sessions under the Patronage of Her Majesty on April 16, 2011 and took place over 2 days.

CUMERC Director, Professor Safwan Masri, emphasized CUMERC’s role in promoting dialogue between researchers, policymakers and practitioners in the evolving field of philanthropy and civic engagement in Jordan and throughout the Middle East.

The conference gathers leading academics, philanthropists, and representatives from socially responsible private sector companies and non-profit organizations from across the region.

Her Majesty also stopped by the Queen Rania Teachers Academy (QRTA) to check on current training sessions taking place and follow up on the Academy’s latest programs.

The Queen chatted with a group of teachers at QRTA and listened to their feedback about the benefits they got from participating in such courses.

QRTA, which works in collaboration with the Teachers College at Columbia University and the Ministry of Education, has to date provided training for over 1500 teachers, principals and educators.
