Queen Rania Meets with Beneficiaries and Board Members of Al Aman Fund

(Office of Her Majesty, Press Department-Amman) Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah met today with beneficiaries and members of the Board of Directors of Al Aman Fund, which provides support to orphans through education schemes and other services. 

“You are a role model in determination, bravery, independence and overcoming obstacles” Her Majesty told the beneficiaries. “Whenever I hear from you I feel excitement and optimism.”

Commenting on the work of Al Aman Fund, which was launched by Her Majesty in 2006, Queen Rania said: “I’m very proud of the numbers I’m hearing today, the increase in the number of beneficiaries to 1600 and the increase in the number of donors. I’m also very happy to hear that the fund has given our youth the motivation for education and hard work.”

Her Majesty also expressed her pride in the student alumni of the fund, and commended them for their tireless work to help the fund reach more orphans across the kingdom.

The meeting included a brief on the Fund’s achievements to date by the Fund Director, Maha Al Saqqa, who said the number of orphans who benefited from Al Aman Fund’s education schemes reached 1,664 out of which 307 were housed in the orphanages across the kingdom.

The number of graduates reached 805, out of which 280 received job opportunities through the fund. The total number of orphans who benefited from Al Aman Fund’s counseling services and workshops reached more than 4500, while 600 students have benefited from the health insurance offered by the fund.

In 2011, Al Aman Fund was able to expand its services to reach more orphans across the country as well as poverty pocket areas. During the past years Al Aman launched several media campaigns on the occasion of Arab Orphans Week, during Ramadan, and the Fund’s 5th year anniversary to increase awareness and encourage donations.

Addressing Her Majesty, one of the beneficiaries said: “the way they [Al Aman Fund] treated us has really affected me positively, now I feel like I want to cry out of joy. But the biggest “thank you” goes to you Your Majesty… from the bottom of our hearts, thank you”.

The meeting was also attended by the head and representatives of Al Aman Fund Student association. The Association was formed in November 2011 and was officially launched during Al Aman’s 5th anniversary in February 2012. Its vision is to instill the spirit of volunteerism and giving back to the community through different programs and activities.

The president and the board of directors of the student association were elected by 150 of the fund’s beneficiaries and the board includes representatives from every governorate in Jordan.

Al-Aman Fund for the Future of Orphans is an independent, non-governmental organization (NGO) that was founded by Her Majesty Queen Rania in 2006 and is registered under the Ministry of Social Development in Jordan to support orphans after the age of 18. It provides orphans with the necessary housing, financial support and scholarships to enable them to graduate from post secondary education institutions across the kingdom.

The Fund also offers other programs that aim to empower orphans and increase their employability upon graduation. These programs include: a training course with Talal Abu Ghazaleh Center for Knowledge which includes job related workshops and soft skills training, which to date has benefited more than 500 students; empowerment courses for caregivers in the orphanages; a debate skills program; and a training course for leaders in volunteerism through the British Council.
