(Office of Her Majesty, Press Department- Amman) – Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah attended today a discussion around the launch of the National Frame for Child Labor in Jordan. The discussion, which took place at the King Hussein Club in Amman, included presentations by Mrs. Reem Abu Hassan, Secretary General of the National Council for Family Affairs (NCFA) on child labor in Jordan and Mr. Waleed Tarawneh, Country Director of the Cooperative Housing Foundation (CHF) on the Child Labor Program, its goals, results and future plans.
The discussion was also attended by representatives from the Ministries of Education, Labor and Social Development; members of community based organizations and civil society organizations and children who have benefited from the program and have been reincorporated in schools.
Mohammad Miqdady, Deputy Director of NCFA, gave a brief on the role of the committee which drafted the framework. Each counterpart from the ministries of education, social development and labor also spoke about the roles of their respected ministries in combating the issue of child labor.
The National Committee on Child Labor has created a national framework to alleviate child labor, drafted in coordination with local counterparts. The Ministry of Labor is working on establishing this framework as a national strategy.
The framework aims at highlighting the roles and responsibilities of each of the constituents who are either: service providers, deliverers or even beneficiaries. It provides clear dividing lines and descriptions of roles to be played and holds those involved responsible and accountable to those roles.
The framework also identifies methods in which those organizations should deal with children who have been or are laborers and ways in which they should be reincorporated into the schooling system.
