(Office of Her Majesty, Press Department- Amman) In a special two-hour edition of CNN’s Larry King dedicated to the humanitarian crisis in Haiti, Her Majesty Queen Rania of Jordan, on Monday, urged the international community to support the United Nations Foundation’s emergency relief efforts and UNICEF, which is working to rescue thousands of orphaned and injured children in the aftermath of the catastrophic quake.

(Office of Her Majesty – Press Department – Amman) - Calling for an emergency press conference, Monday, Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah made an urgent plea on behalf of all the civilians living in Gaza, especially the children, for a “humanitarian ceasefire” and for the international community to do all they can to help alleviate the suffering inflicted during this humanitarian crisis, including “bringing in vital medical supplies, equipment and staff.”

(Office of Her Majesty, Press Department - Amman) Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah met with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Wednesday, during his visit to Amman to discuss the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. During the meeting, Her Majesty noted the UN’s efforts in calling for an immediate end to the violence, but said that more pressure needs to be put on Israel.

Despite numerous calls on behalf of the international community for an immediate ceasefire, the situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate while the ability of relief agencies to assist is impeded, she said.
