Queen Rania Distributes Computers in School in Wadi Seer
(Office of Her Majesty, Press Department – Amman) As part of her nation-wide initiative to introduce computers and Information Technology in schools across the Kingdom and to incorporate their use in the educational system, Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah Wednesday distributed fully equipped computers to Umm Habiba Secondary School for Girls in Wadi Seer.
The 21 computers were personally donated by Mr. Samih Darawzeh who responded to the Queen's call to involve the private sector in the initiative, which is aimed at empowering the next generation of Jordanian students to meet the challenges of the new millenium.
The initiative is in line with His Majesty King Abdullah's directives, as well as the one of the main recommendations of the First Economic Forum held at the Dead Sea in November, which called for the introduction of computers and Information Technology to schools across the nation.
The initiative as outlined by the Queen seeks to focus on students' learning experience through exposure to Information Technology, and to enable educators to use computers and the Internet as an educational tool.
The initiative involves working closely with the Ministry of Education and with teachers to incorporate the usage of computers and Information Technology in the classroom and using the Internet as a research tool, as well as training of teachers across the Kingdom. Working with the Ministry of Education also involves incorporating Information Technology into the school curriculum.
Following her visit to the school, Queen Rania then paid a visit to the Anwar Al Huda Al Islamiyah Society in Wadi Seer which provides a nursery for children as well as a skills training center for handicrafts.
