Her Majesty Meets with Assessors of the Queen Rania Award for Excellence in Education
(Office of Her Majesty, Press Department - Amman) Her Majesty Queen Rania Al-Abdullah met, Sunday, with the assessors of the Queen Rania Award for Excellence in Education where the assessors briefed Her Majesty on the progress of the selection process.
The meeting comes a few days before the field visits to schools begin. In this phase the assessors will visit the qualified candidates in their respective schools. These visits will open the door for discussion between the assessors and the teachers regarding different educational practices and possible ways to develop experiences and transfer knowledge.
Telling them that they are the ambassadors of this award, Queen Rania highlighted the many challenges that they face as assessors.
While the list of candidates has been narrowed down from the original 1,126 applicants, Her Majesty said that all the teachers who were nominated for this award should be proud because that is already a sign of their commitment to quality education. She said she hopes that all the teachers in the Kingdom will continue their hard work and feel encouraged to reapply next year.
Award Director Lubna Touqan updated Her Majesty on the latest developments since her last meeting with the coordination team. Touqan said that they received applications from 36 directorates across the Kingdom. The number of application represents a high level of participation if compared to other international and well- established awards.
Queen Rania has stressed many times that the most important indicator for quality of education is the quality of teachers, and this award was created to elevate the status of teachers and boost their morale.
Her Majesty launched the award on March 5, 2006. In May, she met with the award coordinators to review the process of applications and the mechanism of introducing the award to the teachers across the Kingdom. The winners will be honored in a ceremony on October 7, 2006 under the patronage of Queen Rania.
