Queen Rania Meets with UK's National Committee for UNICEF to Jordan

(Office of Her Majesty, Press Department – Amman) Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah, UNICEF’s Eminent Advocate for Children, welcomed a United Kingdom’s National Committee for UNICEF delegation to Jordan, Thursday, to strategize on the Queen’s role and coordinate efforts in spreading UNICEF’s important mandate. On the heels of the Queen’s meeting with UNICEF’s Executive Director Ann Veneman in New York last month, Queen Rania brought the team together to discuss an upcoming sports in development initiative that the Queen said she was keen to lend her voice and support to. The team briefed the Queen on their involvement with the London 2012 Olympics “International Inspiration” program, which will use the power of sport to transform the lives of millions of children and young people in schools and communities in countries across the globe. The aim, according to Thursday’s discussion, will be to help more children and young people, especially those from disadvantaged groups, participate in sport to attain life skills and enjoy an improved quality of life in line with the Millennium Development Goals. The UNICEF National Committee for the UK team includes Executive Director David Bull, President Lord Puttnam of Queensgate, Lady Pasty Puttnam, and Chloe Edwards. They are in Jordan on a 2 day mission to visit UNICEF related programs and activities and explore ways of supporting these initiatives.
