Queen Rania to Receive Humanitarian Award at Charity Gala in France This Evening
(Office of Her Majesty – Press Department – France) - Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah received an award at the 2017 Fashion for Relief charity gala in France, in recognition of her humanitarian efforts towards children caught in conflict.
The charity gala was held in support of Save the Children’s work in Jordan and in areas of conflict and crises around the world and the organization’s Every Last Child Campaign.
The Queen expressed her gratitude to founder and spokeswoman of Fashion for Relief, Ms. Naomi Campbell, and the attending guests, for gathering in support of Save the Children.
During her remarks, Her Majesty told the audience that Jordanians “are on the front lines” of the Syrian refugee crisis and that “1 in 7 amongst us is a Syrian refugee.” With about 90% of refugees residing within host communities across Jordan, there has been an immense strain on the country’s public resources, infrastructure, and social services.
Her Majesty also reminded the audience that Syrian children under the age of six have so far known nothing but war, trauma, and devastation.
The Queen, however, expressed hope in the efforts of many around the world, working together to help address this crisis.
“Amid tragedy and loss, we see passionate people working together to deliver solutions,” she said.
In her closing remarks, Queen Rania stated that the “global community is fragile and prone to breakdown. But events like this one remind us of its strength…and in that, we can find beauty, too.”
Save the Children’s Every Last Child Campaign is working to ensure that the world’s excluded children receive adequate healthcare and quality education. The campaign also aims to support the development and improve the well-being of children displaced by conflict, especially those most adversely affected by today’s global refugee crisis.
Around 500 guests, including influential film makers, celebrities and philanthropists, were present at this year’s event.
